2.3Pros: Sikorsky is a great industry name, has an excellent history, and makes outstanding products. The different departments have some hardworking people (both hourly and salary) who are very capable, intelligent, and friendly. They have a convenient onsite cafeteria and a nurse.
Cons: Working in the Quality department is absolutely horrible. It is not because I don’t like doing Quality functions; it is that the Vice President of Quality is a terrible leader. This individual has no people skills whatsoever, likes to yell at and belittle people, acts fake, always has an attitude, and will throw his subordinates under the bus any chance he gets. Everything is a last minute “emergency” with this individual, and it is very apparent he doesn't understand the critical concepts of time management and task prioritization. I have worked in several different aviation companies over the years, and this individual is by far the WORST leader I have ever encountered.
Don’t believe me? The Quality department has a huge turnover rate, all because of a common denominator… the person in charge. Ask around the whole company of what people think of the leadership of the Vice President of Quality, and you will get massive negative feedback. And by the way, all of the current people in Quality are trying to jump ship! Just like the old business saying: people don’t leave bad companies, they leave bad managers.
Sikorsky Global Helicopters isn’t a bad place to work, just don’t work in Quality. If the company leadership in Stratford, CT is reading this, it is time to clean house down here ASAP!
The Contracting Agencies tell prospective candidates incorrect information to get them in the door. I would suggest when interviewing agency candidates, that HSI Human Resource personnel ensure the candidate is not being misled with false hopes of a permanent position as I was.
1.4Take into account that the employees are people - not worker bees. The opinions and views of the employees matter - if management listens to employee needs, the work environment would be much more pleasant
