Tellers are the forerunner of the banking industry. Most tellers are the first person a customer speaks with and is responsible for handling cash and electronic transactions, solving banking solutions and selling relevant banking products to customers. Additionally, tellers are the main line of defense against fraud and identity theft. The ideal teller is very friendly and great with customers.
Skillset: A teller must have a great handle on mathematics and proper cash handling techniques. The ability to recognize and prevent fraud and identity theft is also important, second only to being able to provide superior customer service. Strong sales skills is a must for all tellers.
Education: All tellers should have a GED or high school diploma, preferably with some college coursework completed.
Career Path: A great candidate for any teller position will have a year or more of cash handling experience and sales experience along with a history of providing exceptional customer service to high profile clients in a professional environment.
