An HR manager is the head of human relations for a given company. This person will handle all of the hiring, firing, promotions and other personnel issues for a company. HR managers will typically handle interviewing and evaluations for employees within the company. They will maintain a file on every employee.
Skillset: An HR manager must have a very wide and diverse set of skills. They will need to be highly organized and detail-oriented to keep up with the different challenges they face. They will also need to understand aspects of psychology in order to manage employees. Communication skills are also important for people in this role.
Education: Many HR managers study human resource management at some point in their academic career. They might get a management degree from an undergraduate school. Depending upon the size of the company, an HR manager might be expected to have an MBA in order to move up the ladder.
Career Path: Anyone who wants to have a career in HR will need to have a strong foundation of psychology and management. One might attain a bachelors in management and an MBA in human resource management to help land this position. Many people will work in internships in HR departments in order to gain experience.
