The associate manager serves directly under the manager and is a deputy of sorts. The primary function of an associate manager is to provide essential support for a full or general manager. He will be there to carry out the wishes of that person. He might also have the job of helping the full manager come up with ideas.
Skillset: As associate manager must be able to take and follow directions. Because his job is to listen to the general manager, he must be willing to subordinate himself. Likewise, he should have the ability to manage the people beneath him. This means having strong verbal communication skills.
Education: An associate manager can help himself by studying management at a good college. Though this is clearly the most popular path, it is not the only path for a person who ends up in this position.
Career Path: Education is important for an associate manager. Having some background in business will help a person land this kind of job out of college. From there, the key is working hard and building relationships within the company. Associate managers are thought to have the inside track at management positions if they are willing to put in the hard work that this requires.
