Sega is headquarted in Tokyo, Japan, with multiple divisions located worldwide. Sega was formerly known as Service Games, before merging with Rosen Enterprises and developing the first hit known as, "Periscope", under the "Sega" moniker. Sega went on to develop more arcade games before paving the future for home consoles, rivaling Nintendo.

In 1999, after releasing several consoles over a decade and introducing the "Sonic" mascot, Sega became a solely third-party software developer. Sega is most known for its "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise, that debuted in 1991. Sega continues to develop games today for multiple platforms, including the Play Station 3, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii U.
