"My years at the Times were wonderful, though they are in a rapidly declining industry and the employees know it."

What do you like about working at The Seattle Times?

"I loved the idea that my work was viewed by so many people. Being that it was my first job, I have a lot of love for the company and the people there. The people were the best part. I loved that, due to the news industry, I was able to use my skill-set everyday, but use it as dictated by the needs of the news. I also thoroughly enjoyed winning awards nearly every year for the last six years, both as an individual and as a team."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The Seattle Times highly values journalistic integrity. I would be sure to mention that ideal to the intervewees."

What don't you like about working at The Seattle Times?

"In recent years, nearly everyone was looking for other jobs and it created a lot of instability within the company. Though, it didn't necessarily affect me personally - I always made sure my job was done correctly no matter what. It was hard to see so many friends leave due to lay-offs. As I mentioned earlier, everyone at the company knew we were a dying breed and the writing was on the wall."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I think the management did the best they could do under the circumstances. There were a lot of upper-level management leaving for other companies. There was a general disarray amongst the leadershop. Though they stood their ground and did a great job. I have no suggestions for them, I think they did the best they could under the circumstances."
