It can trace its beginnings to 1943 and the establishment of Sankyo Electric by Kaihei Ushikubo. Sankyo was successful because of a single great idea: A cheap, dependable bicycle light. Thousands of post-war Japanese citizens used bicycles for daily transportation, so the company had a ready-made market for its product. In time, they branched out into refrigerating equipment and other electrical devices. Sankyo Electric changed its brand name to Sanden in 1973 and changed the company name to Sanden Corporation in 1981.

Sanden U.S.A. was established in 1974 to manufacture air conditioning compressors. They have brought the science of air compressors into the 21st century with innovations such as the PX Series compressors capable of functioning with less noise, greater control and longer durability than older compressors. The company headquarters is in Wylie, Texas.
