However, due to changes in the photographic industry, such as the decline in popularity of film photography and poor economic conditions, the company had to close many of its locations, filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection in 2009.

Ritz Camera & Image is currently headquartered in Beltsville, Maryland and was the first photo finishing chain to offer customers 4x6 prints. In 2003, the company introduced a website where customers could upload their photos and have them printed in a store within an hour.
