Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would not recommend starting a career in newspapers."

What don't you like about working at Reno Gazette-Journal?

"Incompetent top management. The newspaper company has not been run well over the past several years, bottom lines are shrinking and margins are harder to achieve."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would reduce the number of top executives and realign my assets at the street level to improve revenue. No more fat bonuses for big dogs that have lost their connection to reality."

District Sales Manager

"Excellent benefits - great people."

Reno Gazette-Journal Employee

"Good people, huge challenges"

What do you like about working at Reno Gazette-Journal?

"I liked the fast pace, varied work and excitement of the news cycle."

What don't you like about working at Reno Gazette-Journal?

"I'm not convinced newspapers have figured out how to make enough money in the new media environment. There's still a lot of pain ahead. The biggest problem Gannett has is that its digital arm is taking more operational control even though its overall strategies are poorly conceived and frequently jettisoned."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Instead of laying off people on the basis of seniority, use the crisis to get rid of long-time poor performers -- the newsroom is still full of them. Even though things have improved greatly since Beryl Love came to town, he's not quite done fixing the results of decades of mediocre management."
