"I started working for Regis in 2004. In the duration of my career I have had moments when I loved my career and envisioned retiring with them, and moments where I loathed going to work. Recently Regis took a new turn and began recruiting employees for upper management who have no experience within the industry. Hair stylists are very sensitive and creative thinkers. Placing candidates in place for upper management who don't understand beauty trends or seasonal trends has hardened my heart."

"Small enough shop that allows a breadth of experiences and projects. Never a dull moment. Work is fast paced. Given multiple opportunities to excel."

"The first review couldn't have said it better. Outdated salons, horrible DLs, poverty level wages, terrible, degrading company to work for. Do not waste your time."

"Worked at Regis for almost 4 yrs. I had been thru 5 managers,1 of which wasn't properly licensed, 2 assumed drug addicts, 1 that wasn't there to be a manager or around long enough to see if it could work. The latest manager has not been in the business for nearly 17 yrs. Regis doesn't permit fatigue mats anywhere in the Salon. The sinks are not in the correct ergonomic position. The design and decor of the Salon is outdated. We ate lunch on the W/D because there wasn't enough space in the dispensary for a break area. They make it near impossible to reach commission. They soak up all the profit from products sold until you reach service quota as well. Commission is barely a leg up when you do get it. And knowing that, until a Stylist reaches commission they're a true asset to the company as long as their product sales are strong. They have too tight of a leash on the stylists, As Cosmetologists WE are ARTISTS. I feel this company can hinder your creative mind by having so many restrictions and fine lines. Hosted classes would be a +. It may help to bring the Stylists together as a team. Color, Cuts, Styles, Designs, New Product Reviews (hands on). Also, SUPPORT for the Stylists as they network and try to increase their overall sales. Everyone is different, so maybe some sort of intervention for a stylist who isn't quite making the cut (pun intended), Revisit Color Techniques and Theory for a stylist struggling w/color, 1 on 1 Sales Rep Pep Talks or something. Customer Service review, especially dealing w/ difficult clients. I know the $$$ Regis makes off of their stylists and each service counts, but a Stylist should not have to deal w/ certain situations. In some (most) cases the client isn't always right. Clients don't understand the way we do the entire process. We've all had that client wanting to go from 6 years Level 1-2Box Dye to Platinum Blonde. If the stylist thinks it is best to move in stages of lightening, then the Client and Regis should understand. Regis should stand by their Stylists!!!"

"Regis Corporation is a good "get your foot in the door" company with a fast paced work environment that changes very rapidly. The corporate help desk has almost no knowledge of updates coming out that may increase call volumes, and micro-managing is far too prevalent in that department."

"I've worked for the company through 3 different locations. The last two locations have had limited hours which in turn has given me lower pay. The salon I work at now has great coworkers and even better clients. I like the job because I love working with people."

"After seven years as a stylist, Regis has given me only disdain for my career."

What do you like about working at Regis Corp.?

"Opportunities to win prizes (including trips with paid flight and hotel). Depending on management, work environment can be fairly relaxed."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Do not expect benefits within the first two years of employment. Be prepared to work in an environment with very high turnover and management that may mean well, but constantly have their hands tied when it comes to improving work conditions or handling the lack of resources. Plan for about two weeks before receiving a response when it comes to any matters that would normally be handled by an HR department."

What don't you like about working at Regis Corp.?

"Benefits for salon employees scrape by as barely acceptable. Compensation for salon workers is meager at best -- base pay rings in near minimum wage with the promise of bonuses based on goals that are mostly unattainable when working full-time hours. Yearly reviews are often forgotten by management and, when missed, compensation is not made (a two percent raise over two years is a high average). Staff that strive to render quality services are limited by pricing structure, and are urged to increase store head count over personal ticket average. Paid continuing education is touted as a perk, but the education itself is a thinly guised attempt at training salon professionals into shoddier work practices. Advertisement for many of the salon brands shys away from promoting big ticket services, leaving the hard sell completely up to the stylist. No HR."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Hire middle management with both business and salon experience. It is very obvious that lower management selection criteria are high sales volume and standardized personality assessment. Lower management that do show ambition and potential are quickly stifled by lack of support and resources. Salon locations, even as they are slowly being remodeled, are suffering aesthetically by visual branding restrictions. Marketing and education need to refocus on quality and attention to detail in order to increase ticket averages rather than head count."
