Regional Transportation District Employee

"Congratulations you're now contributing your retirement funds to a $200 million bankrupted pension plan. A stripped-down and gutted health care plan. A highly dysfunctional management team that were run out of every private company they ever worked at. But hey brother they got a union. The union spends majority the of their time negotiating the collective-bargaining contract away to the company and refuses to allow the membership to know about or even vote upon contractual changes. There's no NLRB here brother! You got a complaint on how things are run; you got nowhere to go. Every wage increase is met with a healthcare increase or pension percentage increase that reduces your overall wages. Day one; you will work on first shift then abruptly they will move you to third shift when your probation period is up and to a division that's furthest from your home. Live in Parker; you'll work in Boulder Colorado. Live in Boulder; they will move you to the Aurora facility. Looking forward to retirement? You'll be forced to pay $110.00 Per paycheck to a pension fund (can't opt out) that will only pay out to 25% after 30 years. While senior employees will be receiving 75% payout for 30 years. The estimated recovery period for the pension 60, In fact you'll probably not see one cent before it goes bankrupt. Maintenance personnel are regarded as scum by the "majority" bus operators union (who control the union) and refuse to represent the maintenance personnel as equals. Come contract time, the bus operators scrape up all the money and put it into their pockets and the maintenance personnel walk around sniffing the brake cleaner. If you think about the amount of union, pension, healthcare taxes imposed upon the employee, your overall wage is right around $12 an hour at a maximum pay of $25.35 after all the deductions. There's no job security here anymore thanks to the union."

What do you like about working at Regional Transportation District?

"There are a few really great people I've become friends with, but the company actively discourages its employees from any sort of social interaction unless on a break or at lunch, so these friendships can't be nurtured as much."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Cancel your interview immediately unless you are using this job opportunity as a way to pad your existing retirement fund for a few years before riding off into the sunset. This is where good ideas and innovation go to die."

What don't you like about working at Regional Transportation District?

"How much space do I have In no particular order:Workplace bullies are viewed as successful go-getters and make up the majority of middle- and upper-management.Equal Opportunity Employer claims are a farce. As long as you're in one of the EEOC protected classes (the more, the better) you have the flexibility to move and advance within the company. Otherwise get used to the glass ceiling. In practice, there are different performance standards and expectations based on the employee's EEOC statusThat's the way it's always been done, is usually the answer you receive if you ask why a specific process exists.Suggestions on ways to improve the business are either shot down immediately, or implemented by management without giving proper credit to the originator.All-hands meetings are just larger versions of departmental meetings--communication flow is basically one way.Like working under the microscope Come work for us as a union employee! We guarantee we'll match you up with a supervisor who gives you less freedom to do your job in a way that plays to your strengths than you give your 9 year old!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Instead of finding ways to spend money we don't have so our budgets don't decrease, I would actively try and find ways to cut costs internally so our constituents could get what they are promised and ask for."
