Engineer

"The worst place to work. Overworked and underpaid."

What do you like about working at Polara Engineering?

"Some of the projects were interesting and engaging. Most of the people were nice."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I'd say don't work there. It's very likely they'll find some reason to get rid of you within a year. If you need the job, and it's your only option, by all means take it but keep looking."

What don't you like about working at Polara Engineering?

"They expect you to do the jobs of 3 people and then they wonder why you can't keep up. Turnover rate is extremely high. Micromanaging is norm over there. In addition, management does have some core beliefs that reflect a deep religious background. While not exactly a bad thing, I do not believe that expressing it publicly and having it as a part of the company's culture is appropriate."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Set realistic goals and timelines. Treat your employees with respect and they will perform for you. Give them realistic and achievable goals as well and give them the tools they need (including more people) to get the job done."

Manufacturing Engineer

"Polara is probably the worst company that anyone could work for. They get rid of the manufacturing manager and quality manager almost every year. Management decisions are done by the owner/CEO and VP of operations and they both never worked at anywhere before Polara. If anyone questions or gives honest feedback on the operations, you'll get laid off or let go. Engineers were very underpaid and overworked. Same goes to all floor workers. I do not think this company will last long."

Polara Engineering Employee

"Should be a nice little company, except for an unfortunate weakness in upper-management. Replacing the manufacturing manager and quality manager on multiple occasions in the last few years, you might think upper management would get the clue that they are the problem. Unfortunately they have built a scapegoat atmosphere, and rather than correct issues they would rather find someone to blame. This wouldn't be so bad except a large portion of your annual salary is tied up in the annual bonuses. Not only might everyone's bonus disappear because of poor management practices, but they will arbitrarily cut individual bonuses for reasons unrelated to performances. They also have positioned bonus season to be during the slow time of year, and conveniently lay-off and replace people just before it's time to make the payment. If you don't mind a passive-aggressive style off management, with a little micro-management, you might do alright with this company. Otherwise, until upper-management learns to respect their employees, and realizes their personal lack of knowledge in running a modern manufacturing concern is THE significant problem, this is a company to avoid."

Mechanical Assembler

"My experience at polara engineering has been by far the worst. While being an employee at polara we had a new supervisor by the name of Ruben. This guy did not know anything literally, couldn't remember employees names, he would forget about what he discussed, and just couldn’t run the production floor. Ruben was very unprofessional by the way he talked to his employees to the way he carries himself. Polara Engineering is ran by a daily quota that they want you to meet everyday. Most times they sit you in the same area everyday and expect you to exceed the daily quota which is crazy. I showed up late when I had the appropriate sick time and they fired me. I was a great employee and they tried everything to get rid of me. I feel as if I was discriminated against because of my nationality, but what goes around comes around. Overall this company is horrible!!!"

"Many of the people who work at Polara are absolutely wonderful people. Sadly in Engineering there is little process, little in the way of requirements nor design. Estimating project timelines becomes difficult as the target is not well defined. While the owner strives for the best quality, and has strong process in production, engineering does not receive the same attention to detail and thus stuff falls through the cracks. The engineering cubicles are next to shipping, with manufacturing on the other side of that. Noise can be an issue."
