"Platinum is on par with industry standards for bonus money, trips and renewals, but then fall below in the most critical area: First Year Commission. The industry standard is 55% while they only pay a 40% commission. Training is another critical area where you will suffer from their lack of vested interest in you. At an actual insurance company they can not risk having an agent misrepresent them or their products. So whether you are a 1099 agent like AFLAC or a W-2 agent like at Combined, they provide comprehensive product training. This occurs for weeks before you ever get in front of client and you are often sent to their headquarters or a regional center for a week of instruction. Platinum will provide you the marketing brochure of the underwriter, the rest is left to you. This is not only a big disadvantage but can potentially open you up to serious legal issues. As a 1099 contractor you are liable for any errors or omission you make to a client. Actual companies actually provide agents with Error and Omission coverage or access to such coverage. While you are at greater risk, Platinum will never even mention this. They will tell you that 90% of the time a customer will not remember the specifics of what they were told. What goes unsaid is that for that 10% that does, few will actually sue you since normally you are long gone. You will have to decide if it is worth the risk. At this point, most companies have invested quite a bit in getting you licensed and product certified so if only to protect that investment they continue with field training. They will have you with a trainer for a month or more to start, with additional training each quarter over your first year. Yes, they are actually planning on you being around for a year. "
