2.9Pike is a good company to work for. It is hard to get people in power at the home office to understand the dynamics of the different diversity of equipment that is required for a field mechanic to repair. It can be very overwhelming during storm restoration. If all a field mechanic had to repair was engine overheating , then it would be a good job. But , when you have to know all the hydraulic problems that arise in bucket, line, wire pullers , just to name a few. Then have to know all the problems that arise from equipment drivability of bucket , line , 2w & 4w drive pickup's. Equipment is continually evolving and you are learning on job always. It's not a job that you get much respect from and at times you may get pissed. Field repair mechanics work alone. There is no helper that is available with you. Some Line crew foremans might let you use someone help with a transmission replace. But , prolly 98% time you're on your on. The ones in charge are always bitchin about regular hours of work to be held at 40hrs and still expect all repairs be made. The travel area is a couple or more hours in any direction for your work area. Storm restoration doesn't get any better when it comes to limiting your work hours. One has to also hope that the line supervisor keeps you in mind when finding a place to lie down ( hopefully a single room ) but , most of the time you're on your own. The last thing is , you have to provide all your own tools to do your job. Pike does not repair or replace any of your own tools.
4.2Better training programs for personal. Better upgraded equiptment. Bonuses for top safety crews. Bring back hotel and food per-diem while out of town.
