Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be very careful of what you are told. They have made cuts in every Olympus sales arena; be it Olympus NDT, Olympus Medical or Olympus Scientific. They will not hesitate to cut employees if they think it will save a few bucks in the short term. I would ask for some guarantees before accepting any position with Olympus."

What don't you like about working at Olympus?

"After a large sales meeting in January where we were told directly by the company president that all was well and there is no need to worry about your positions eleven sales people were laid-off, without warning in early April. Most had just purchased vehicles to replace their former company cars which had been done away with. The cuts were not based on performance but designed to help the companies bottom line. Some of the people cut had over 10 years of tenure with Olympus and were given no more credit for this experience than a new hire. Good product, good co-workers, very weak management and very little concern for the front-line employees."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I suggest they find new management which would show some concern for their employees and a little less concern for the short-term profit goals. When the economy does rebound Olympus will not be prepared or capable of taking advantage due to their current short-term interests. Their inability to service the customer (yet save a few dollars right now) will hurt them in the months ahead."
