"I would be more progress and more willing to take risks. Also, there would be a much higher salary for employees and hire the best young talent."

"Continue as planned. Management seemed to have vision for future growth."

"Every department is different. Keep your eyes and ears open."

"Very conservative and bureaucratic IT dept. that outsources tech support to India, uses obsolete technology (Windows XP, DotNET 3.5, 32-bit PCs) and has no concept of how effective software development is really done."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Understand that software is central to your business and act accordingly."

"I came to there with good ideas, but it is a close-minded, backward company."

"Nothing -- a very inbred, country-club environment. More important that you look good than perform well."

"Run away. This company may seem good on the surface, but once you spend some time there, you'll see its rotten underbelly."

"Worst company I've ever worked for. Senior management is profoundly incompetent."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Resign. Not a single one of you are competent to run a bank."

"I've been a consultant and employee, and have been treated well as both. Benefits are good and people are friendly. Work-life balance has been good to me. It had the small company feel when I started in the '90s, but now is a global organization which suffers from growing pains and being treated like a number."

"Good work/life balance, however very low pay and very little chance for promotion."

"Northern Trust would be a great place to work if it were not for the preponderance of minimally active power-broker types that have the authority to veto your efforts. They also have a HUGE problem with offshore developers that are not acting in the best interest of the company."

"Pros: Great relationships with coworkers and decent technology available. Cons: Too many fairly lazy political types make it hard to get things done, and reliance on less productive offshore resources can cripple projects there."
