"Oursourcing, horrible culture, hours were borderline slavery"

What do you like about working at Nielsen?

"They allowed telecommuting. Guess that's about all I can think of."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Unless you are desperate for a paycheck or are a career man/woman who doesn't mind giving your soul away to the company - DO NOT WORK AT NIELSEN. You will be utterly miserable."

What don't you like about working at Nielsen?

"Outsourcing to the max, so no job security at all, no matter how long you'd been with the company. Payraises eliminated a couple years before I quit. No work/life balance at all - 7 business days per week is what we were told, and most people had to work 7-day workweeks due to the unrealistic delivery dates promised to customers. No employee morale, and you would frequently get yelled at by some managers."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Try giving a rip about your employees instead of working them to death until you can find a way to replace them with cheaper labor or eliminate their position entirely. These people are HUMAN BEINGS. There are more important things than your bottom line, especially when you are already filthy rotten rich to begin with. How many yachts do you need"

"Horrible culture, no job security, low pay"

What do you like about working at Nielsen?

"Telecommuting allowed. I also worked with some great people, but I can say that about any company I've ever worked for. That's about all the positives I can think of."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Unless you are desperate for a paycheck or want to give your soul to the company - Do NOT work here."

What don't you like about working at Nielsen?

"No job security whatsoever - neverending rounds of layoffs/outsourcing of work. Payraises had ceased at least a year or two before I quit (and I always got good reviews). No work/life balance at all - you were told there are 7 business days in a week. Most people had to work 7-day weeks to try to meet the ridiculous delivery dates. Employee morale = horrible. Some people were ASKING to be laid off so they could just get out and get their severance, if that tells you anything. You would get yelled at by some managers frequently for virtually no reason. I was delivering all of my work prior to the deadlines, yet was being told I wasn't doing my job. Say what"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Try giving a rip about your employees. They are not emotionless robots that you can work to death until you can find a way to remove them from your payroll. They are human beings."

"Not a good place to work. Rip their employees off in bonus and wages. Department of Labor needs to take a look at what they are doing."

"Hey Nielsen, why don't you hire a better HR Department You promoted my daughter, made her quit her full time job and then told her it was a mistake. It's not nice. My daughter is not a mistake, the only mistake here is the immature department of yours, who did not even once try to do the right thing."

"I worked for Nielsen for 2 years. It was the most sexist company I ever worked for. The management were all good ole boy bullies and HR refused to address any issues. It was impossible to get time off for vacation. Most employees are part-time but have the carrot of full-time dangled in front of them and never get better pay or benefits. The benefits package is expensive and raises are nonexistent. Layoffs and outsourcing are common. Managers actively work to block people from promotion."

What do you like about working at Nielsen?

"Some intelligent, dedicated quality people still remain in the company."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would avoid it if possible unless you can't find anything else."

What don't you like about working at Nielsen?

"Benefits are among the least competitive in the industry. Salaries are not competitive. No employee can be comfortably assured of a job next week. It's a never ending environment of chaos centered on productivity gains. You may appreciate this if you're an investor. Not so much if you're a client or employee. Its a machine with a focus on productivity, efficiency and market cap. No vision for how they'll stay in business in the future."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"None. The people you hire to turn a business around are generally not qualified to run it."

What do you like about working at Nielsen?

"This is the worst company I have ever worked for"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Do not work for this company. It would be a terrible move especially with them constantly downsizing."

What don't you like about working at Nielsen?

"Where do I begin The pay is abysmal. You're overworked. No one listens to your ideas. You are treated like a dog and basically told to shut up. There is ZERO opportunity to move up or even laterally to a different division. Good luck ever getting a raise. They are constantly laying people off...scratch that...finding reasons to fire them so they don't have to lay people off."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Wake up. The top down communication is poor at best. There are to many managers all worried about covering their own butts and saving their jobs. They are not taught how to be effective managers"

Membership Sales Representative

"Avoid Membership Sales Rep jobs nationwide because..."

What do you like about working at Nielsen?

"A company car was a nice perk but over $70 per pay period was deducted for personal use regardless of personal miles driven."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would turn and run the other way but be sure to ask the meaning of having a home office. This is not the case as you need to be on the road constantly. It is all about production so working from home is very misleading."

What don't you like about working at Nielsen?

"High stress and low job satisfaction. This job requires one to knock on doors without an appointment and recruit the home to be part of the Nielsen TV Ratings. It sounds easy because the rep is not actually selling a product or collecting money. The fact is that it is not easy simply because people do not want to be bothered and are wary of strangers at their door. Winter time is especially difficult not because of the cold but because it gets dark by 5pm in most places. The evening is prime recruitment time since that is when people tend to be home. However, try to get someone to open their door for you at night. Good luck! Goals are unrealistic and blanketed across the country with little regard for drive time and workload. Addresses are chosen for you so you are at the mercy of people answering their door or not. The MR role will not prepare you for anything either in or out of the company. I would stay away and if you really want to sell and work with people then get a job in B2B sales where bonuses are not withheld at the whim of the associate directors."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The managers that set the minimums are the survivors and have limited experience recruiting homes. They lack vision and more importantly and understanding of the difficult nature of this job. They set targets without an understanding of what is realistic. They will replace people rather than trying to develop them."

"I worked for Nielsen for 7-months. I was so excited to be hired by this company, however it was a big mistake of my career. Mgmt is a bully by threading to fire you weekly, very stressful. Bonus is a joke they find ways not to pay you. They allow FRs to backout your homes and you have no control. FIELD RESEARCHERS - DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY!!!"
