"Don't bother."

What don't you like about working at NextWave Wireless?

"I reported to the EVP and then to the CEO who is also the Chairman, the President, the COO, and the head of technology. No one ever knew where he was. He had a hard time making any decisions in my area of focus. What we could discern of the company strategy was unfocused. He delivered a different strategy for every audience. Acquisitions happened but we had no idea why, and they didn't make sense. Even investors and particularly analysts had no idea what was going on. The analysts were really confused, and that is not good. My immediate manager, the EVP of Marketing and Communications was a pathological micro-manager. Everything I did had to have his imprint on it, he took credit for things I did, and made some very costly blunders by shooting from the hip and not consulting me. He let it be known that had a long-held private relationship with the CEO that transcended everything, but it didn't seem to go very far in getting anything done. Good people were let go, not-so- good people were left to roam around. So that rather colored my view of the company as a whole."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Foremost, get some operational executive management in there. Put together a coherent, cohesive strategy and let people know about it. Let the people who were hired to do a job do it, and don't try and to it yourself."
