Overview Mississippi State University is one of the nation's finest public universities. The main campus is situated on 4,200 rural acres in Starkville, Mississippi. There are also campuses in Vicksburg, Meridian and Biloxi. The university is commonly referred to as MSU. The school was founded in 1878 and was originally called the Agricultural and Mechanical College of the State of Mississippi.
