A member services representative provides general customer service duties to people who belong to an organization. Daily duties may include answering questions, performing new membership signups and renewals, and processing various member requests that are related to the specific organization that they are employed by. Member services representatives may communicate with members in person, by phone or by email.
Skill Sets: Member services representatives need to show politeness, empathy and have good communications skills. They need to be attentive to members needs and provide rapid solutions should problems arise.
Education: As this is an entry level position, in most cases all that is required is a high school diploma. Certain organizations may have higher education requirements or ask that candidates have some experience in the customer care field.
Career Path: A degree in a subject that is related to the organization's main sector of activity may be a good asset to have. Building experience in jobs where one interacts with the public on a regular basis can also help one find a job as a member services representative.
