Mazda is a large, Japanese corporation in the business of manufacturing and selling motor vehicles. Mazda was founded in 1920 by Jujiro Matsuda, who originally named the company the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd. During World War II, Mazda, which was then known as Toyo Kogyo, produced weapons for the Japanese military. The company did not officially start using the name Mazda until 1984.

Today, Mazda produces more than 1.3 million vehicles each year. Although roughly 80 percent of those vehicles are produced in Japan, they are sold across the globe at one of Mazda's 400 worldwide sales companies. The official Mazda headquarters are located in Japan, in the town of Fuchu, Hiroshima.
