"I've worked at this privately owned franchise since December, The owner knows what she is doing as she has a lot of locations. However, I do not think she can handle all on her own so she relays in my opinion on incompetent people. Very disorganized zero structure. If managers are meeting goals is all on our own because there is zero support from upper management. And a lot of gossips. A big reason why I am out."

"I have worked for Massage Envy for 4.5 years, and have loved the time I have spent there. Massage Envy is a great company to work for because it encourages their employees to do things to help them feel their best, as well as to help their clients feel their best. The franchise that I worked for provided additional knowledge on gaining leadership skills, and developing these in the work place."

"I worked at this location for over 2 years. My manager chewed me out in front of other employees because of something my grown daughter may or may not have said on Facebook. (I was never shown the post.). 2 minutes before my first massage of the day. I worked there a while longer but was very uncomfortable after that incident. The owner was notified. I never received an apology or even an explanation."

"Great therapists and coordinators, however the managers and franchisees need a little more work with communication and actually being a manager. I do like this job, however there is way too much drama to where it makes me feel like I am still in high school, when I am passed that stage."

"I've only worked for ME for about 4 months but it's long enough for me to see how much they don't care about not only their employees, but their customers as well. I get paid minimum wage, which is understandable because the location I work at is not very busy. However, we share a manager with another location near by and that manager never seems to want to get anything done. I have customers calling regularly talking about how they just want to get a hold of a manager but she never returns their phone calls or emails. Some members have reported turning in cancellation forms for their memberships but still being charged even six months later. I've even heard from other employees that they have witnessed the manager literally yell and scream at customers who irritated her. This manager is long gone, but the real problem here is that the owner knows all of this, and doesn't seem to care. The manager left of her own accord, not because the owner fired her or even talked to her about her behavior. Multiple times I tried to get a hold of the manager (she spends a total of three hours a week at our location) and she wouldn't answer the phone or text me back, so one day when I needed a quick response to a question I emailed the owner who got back with me promptly. Not ten minutes later did I get a call from the manager who yelled at me for "bothering" the owner. Well, I hate to break it to you, but since YOU never respond, I went above your head like anyone else would. The assistant manager does less than nothing and gets mad when you don't clean up after her. No leading by example. The perks here are essentially zero as well. I've never had a real massage, and I'd like to be able to recommend a therapist to customers and know what I'm talking about, but in order to get a free massage, you have to sell an unreal amount of product and memberships in a month's time. Don't waste your time here."

"I invested nearly seven years at Massage Envy and held positions working at the front desk, managing the front desk, and as a licensed massage therapist, and leaving was not a decision I came to lightly. Working in multiple positions with Massage Envy provided me with the experience and knowledge that when a therapist is injured, and requires a temporary schedule change, time is of the essence and it is as simple to resolve as making phone calls to clients to reschedule their appointments. There is never any “reworking” or finagling required and projecting this undue hassle on the injured therapist is highly unprofessional and unreasonable. The treatment of therapists caused me to sever all ties with this organization I once touted. After being injured due to management’s ignorance I could no longer endure any further disrespect or damage to my reputation or health as a therapist by working for such a place and my only option was to salvage what I could of my career as a licensed massage therapist. I have received no response to my resignation email which was sent to the Massage Envy clinic email address, the clinic manager, the therapist manager for the Massage Envy clinics in the area, and the owner/franchisee of the Massage Envy clinics in the area; this is entirely in keeping with the poor practices of the management staff I worked under. UPDATE: I retired from the massage business due to injury sustained at Massage Envy. After close to four months of performing no massages, being denied unemployment (since I chose to leave,) and being denied workers compensation (since my injury was attributed to “overuse” and not a single incident,) I started a new massage job at an amazing business, but after my very first session I was in severe pain again. According to the orthopedist I saw I should not perform any further massages, require physical therapy to begin with, and eventually may require shoulder surgery."

"I've worked for Massage Envy since 2011. Each one is independently owned, so if you have a good owner the environment is much better than most. I'm fortunate to be one of those people who has a great owner. There are a few negatives, it's a retail type schedule so holidays and weekends are a must. And getting time off can be difficult, the only options are using PTO if you're full time or getting your shift covered, so if your PTO doesn't get approved and no one will cover, you're out of luck. It's also heavily sales based, not a lot of people realize that so there is a huge turnover rate once they realize what's going on."

"Terrible place to work. Want a lunch break during your 10 hour shift? Haha, nope! Not at this location. Unfair booking all the time. I get overbooked and the person next to me has nothing. Terrible management, terrible owners. They don't care at all about their employees. They are penny smart, dollar foolish. Wanting to have as many therapists on at a time as they can so they don't have to turn clients away, but then us therapists sit here with nothing to do, and we don't get paid when we're not in session. Go somewhere else. Stay away from Massage Envy Geneva, Oswego, Darien & Naperville North (on 59 & liberty)."
