What do you like about working at Kohl's?

"I've met some very nice people who have become my friends."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"There is no possible way to screw up the interview at Kohl's. I've seen people go in for interviews with jeans and flip flops on and land the job. That said, I think it's a good job to build experience at, especially if it's your first job. I wouldn't make this a career. For me there has been no opportunity to get ahead."

What don't you like about working at Kohl's?

"The pay raise is terrible if you do work hard, regardless of the amounts of credit cards you acquire. The managers are unhelpful when it comes to the jewelry department. If I have a question for them about anything jewelry related I have to call my supervisor at home! She should be allowed to have some time off, but who else am I going to call if none of the managers at my store can care enough to come help me? I think I work very hard for Kohl's, but there is little to no appreciation for it, and it makes me question why I work hard at all."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would be involved more with my employees. I would definitely learn how to work every aspect of the store so in a crunch I can keep the company moving. I would show appreciation to all my employees who deserve it. I would work to be fair and honest."

Customer Service Representative

"It was an extremely unpleasant work environment for near to nothing pay."

What do you like about working at Kohl's?

"Some of my co-workers were pleasant to work with. Not all of them, but some of them."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"You don't need to dress to impress at Desert Ridge Kohl's. I don't think the HR representative had even an associate's degree, let alone a bachelor's."

What don't you like about working at Kohl's?

"The micromanagement is beyond comprehension. HR doesn't care, and my supervisor would become dangerously disturbed whenever I wasn't stocking enough merchandise. Multitasking (such as doing 4 things at the same time) is considered standard operating procedure at Desert Ridge Kohl's."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Compensate your employees better, ensure your managers aren't mentally disturbed, and give out some sort of benefits to the workers."

Assistant Store Manager

"Unrealistic goals. Ridiculous payroll standards. Horrible merchandising."

What do you like about working at Kohl's?

"My salary is the only good thing, besides my vacation time. The hours are horrible."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you're an experienced manager, go elsewhere. Kohl's only wants kids straight out of college so they can pay them next to nothing."

What don't you like about working at Kohl's?

"I don't like working for poor, condescending upper management who would not be able to survive a tough store environment."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"More payroll will equal a cleaner store. The place is always a wreck."

"This isn't a bad company to work for, but there is no management. People don't know what to do usually. Managers are hard to get a hold of and sometimes they don't even know what is going on. The store manager is never available or at the store usually. She doesn't communicate with her managers. There is just too many Indians and not enough chiefs as the saying goes."

"The Kohls in Florence SC is awful. Mostly because of management. They could care less about their employees, bad communication and just overall not a good place to work if you want any respect. The store manager that's there now treats her employees like they are dogs, telling them to do something NOW and just speaking to them with no respect. I have heard her say that the difference between her and her employees is that the employees have to work, she on the other hand doesn't."

"I worked here nearly a decade and became burned out from the chaos so I turned in a two-week notice, as that is the proper thing to do. Apparently, people quitting reflects poorly on management so they fired me (or tried to since I already had quit) and I suspect my resignation letter will never see the light of day."

"One of the worst companies to work for. Worked with them for seven years, five different managers. The assistant manager is very rude. Manager doesn't say hello to staff, 7 years, 4 hours per week, it only started since this new crew of 4 took over."

"I started with this company as a part time job in 2004, but it had become one of my jobs after I was downsized from my full time job in 2005.Opportunities come few and far between. After being promoted to Operations supervisor and transferring to my third store, I realized that retail is not the area I wanted to pursue and is not a match for my managerial skills"

"Poor management, employees hate working there. Get no breaks, and ask no questions. The employees make it confusing, blamed it on the newbies. The store manager acts so fake it's kind of strange. They hire and fire you in a week. $8.00/hour for slave labor. They'll try you out for a few days and then say fire you when it's not what they want that second. They wanted all my ideas on how to do things better, then suck all the info out of me and threw me out. Used me for the info. Your relationship with your supervisor, horrible. The relationship you have with your co-workers, back stabbing. Hope they're not that bad off."
