"I started working for Kmart in Kona back in 2015. When I began there I had a great ASM, he left along with the store manager and 3 others. Back in Jan. department managers came to work only to find out they had lost their jobs, they were given a choice of being a lower paid associate or let go, my department toys, I had to put away freight in others' departments plus unload the truck and take care of 3 departments, then I was informed that I could only take 3 days sick leave (I called in every time), they told me 1 more time I'd be fired, the company has gone downhill, there's nobody on the floor to take care of customers, the products so cheap they don't last. I'll be surprised if the company lasts till end of 2017. I've been in retail a long time, Kmart is the worst I ever worked for."

"Be prepared to be enormously let down. I have never worked in a more loveless enviornment. Your local Kmart may vary but my experience was soured by major paper waste, pressure to upsell at long checkouts, basically zero affirmative gratitude and initiative by management, and unfathomable customers. No more worker discount either. Some team mates are the best; from the get-go the majority needed to exhibit basic happiness. Lots of the profane - yes! One of the worst places to be a cashier and far worse for help desk staffers. You can't support a cat on this salary, after deductions. With what you have to endure and top off it's just too low a standard. Even McD's pays more."

"Honestly, one of the worst companies to work for. Kmart may hire one during a low economy but they get experience or confidence and locate jobs with more of a career prospect, or much better pay, after deductions! I could count off the boards where this company would SO benefit, themselves and everybody, by bringing their stagnant Retro ark up to relevant date. I decided to not continue Kmart as my indefinite future. Surprising how this store holds its roots against other newer giants. Kmart seems overall less and less a stable employer. Not enough training. PC sit down for an hour then forget it is ironically a let down. Employees get sick, already limit past in overworked, in too cold or hot stores with managers intolerant or unsympathetic about it. Working there could really be a fight. There are happier more effective retailers or companies to invest your hours in. Pay here? Not even average."

"At the location I worked at, I can affirm there, that Management seemed unwilling or unable to address voluntary negative occurrences between employees and personal grievances. The company is definitely proactive about slip & fall prevention/safety, and sexual harassment but might consider ancillary drama and strife too petty to address and resolve. It's hard to turn down extra hours sometimes. But also two days off was actually hard to automatically get. Working here had pluses. I knew the pay was ground level minimum but employees would so perk up under even a tad more. And as widespread, especially in retail, raises and official benefits are simply not there. Can be really bad, foul language... all over the store. As with a coworker's disrespectful or inappropriate words or behavior to another, what could be listened to by management? Some employees or managers lacked physical boundaries, ironically. You tell someone please don't do that, but guess what? Or if you have a pain problem and someone just keeps touching you just a little too hard. I rated technology a low mark for a few reasons, the biggest being mismanagement of how employees stash needed by others devices so they can't be accessed, and the debilitating dearth and lack of radios and other salesfloor devices when overcrowded and top-staffed. I can't talk badly of this company but with it, as with so many other work venues, you're taking your chances. I worked with some great people but toxic ones. There could be much angst and lack of smiles, so it's important to be true to yourself and monitor your morale and attitude projected to buyers, but it does actually mean a lot. More than you know. One of the pluses was it wasn't so rush-rush, you could still get the line thru or get your job done without your neck breathed down upon. Be aware this is a rougher environment people-wise, generally, and if you don't like it... well. The stockrooms are COLD or facilities very warm, it's true."

"I worked for Sears right out of high school before 1989 which was the nightmare of my life, not just working life. Kmart may be affiliated with Sears but at this store, I can say I do feel valued as an employee. I'm still a rookie hire but I do see myself staying here for a while. The easiest spot I have ever worked in retail overall. Beats Macy's and a few others. The managers here are pleasant and liked, another surpriser, but that's a lucky thing in the working world. Kmart is refreshing in the sense that though it has busy times it's not non-stop like Ross or Target. You can transfer but may not find the same good you're used to and would have to readjust. Pay could be higher. But I think more demanding retail employers is the trade off."

"Kmart Is the worst company to work for. On November 1st I was working and overheard a customer talking at customer service about a purchase order. My coworker was so rude to the lady. After the lady left she calls supervisor and said the customer threatened her. That's a lie. My coworker was rude."

"The company does not promote within. The company is known for eliminated full time positions with no warning simply to get out of having to pay benefits. They will then--only if they choose to--bring you back after a few weeks at part time hours. They expect a lot but give almost nothing in return."

"I have been with Kmart for a little over a year now. I knew going into the job that it was only a part-time position. The human resources manager has told me several times that the longer I was working for the company the more hours I would receive. That still hasn't happened. I went back to her about it and she said that if I didn't call off from work then I would get more hours. I've called off twice in over a year. Both times I've had doctors excuse. And now at the beginning of another year, I know hours get cut. But! I have had 18 hrs in the past two weeks. I've trained several new girls and they are NEW and they are getting more hours than me. They are still in high school as well. I don't understand. I have done nothing wrong. The HR manager has it out for me."

"I have worked at Kmart for a few months and I would not recommend this place to anyone. It is the worst place I have ever worked at .The manager is a phony and the human resource manager is no better. At first everyone is really nice to you and within a week they are treating you like dirt. You are pretty much expected to work without any breaks - legally, they are suppose to give you a 30 minute break and get pissed off when you tell them you are taking your break. They will schedule you non-stop and not give you any days off. If you ask for a day off they yell at you. The place is basically toxic."

"Worked there for a few months,worst experience ever. At first it's great and everyone is friendly (coworkers). But then they start giving dirty looks,and roll their eyes at you when you ask a question. There was one supervisor who humiliated me so much and saw me as less of a person than any of the other employees. They expect so much from you and don't even give you the right tools to do so, the registers crash 9 out of10 times. When you close, you don't get out at 10pm... it's ridiculous how many people wait until the last minute to purchase things, and since the registers are slow. Kmart doesn't respect your rights, working 6 hours means one 15 minute break even if you, by LAW, need to take a 30 minute lunch break and one 15 minute break.Sometimes, I wasn't even given my 15 minute break. I even witnessed the arrogant supervisor treating a costumer as if she was stupid! Horrible place!!"
