Assistant VP of Marketing

"A first in 25 years of leadership roles the only, the worse manager (abusive, contradictive, Bipolar, mean and too chatty, would spend hrs talking about nothing~your eyes would glaze over) and WORSE company I worked for. The stab in the back rather than work together is prevelant here. The lack of teamwork atmosphere and no sharing of information, constant feeling of competitiveness. Many felt the same way in my division including all my peers and several of my employees."

What do you like about working at John Hancock Financial?

"I really enjoyed the rebrand, redesign effort and the committee I worked with there, very different from the people in the life division in terms of positive, work savvy atmosphere."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Trust your insticts in terms of who your manager and group would be. Ask questions revolving the mission statement, how it is followed from top down, goal settings, group meetings set or not. Open communication that enables employees to express their opinions without fear of reprisal"

What don't you like about working at John Hancock Financial?

"Everything else, the micro managing of a VP who did not know Marketing, the lack of partnership with product, field, sales....always made to feel like an outsider, especially from my direct report Director, who has no leadership skill sets or interpersonal skill sets, very bad manager."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Liven up the atmosphere and open the communication lines. Stop your management of Directors, AVP's. VP's SVP's from thinking working together was a threat and the rampent disrespect for your manager should not be encouraged. Too much gossiping and not enough work."

"I found John Hancock internally competitive, no open door policy, not good with balancing family work life, a confusing atmosphere and mission statement from the top down with two different types of employees, ,lack of communication and sharing."

What do you like about working at John Hancock Financial?

"didn't work there, worked at John Hancock Life Insurance"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Really look at who you will be working for and with."

What don't you like about working at John Hancock Financial?

"My boss was difficult, spent too much time talking, people would avoid him, he gave mixed messages, he would have temper tantrums in front of people which was embarressing for the person he was speaking to. I think he shouldn't manage people and needs to look at the Executive insiders ~ the eight worst signs of a bad manager. He would say one thing and then later change his mind and note that you were mis informed. Nothing anyone did was sufficient. I have never seen anything like it in 20 years. He verbally harrassed me for two years."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Remove him, and begin communicating with your employees and management, not just amongst yourselves. This is no longer a mans company."
