Vice President, Human Resources

This position is a #remote position based in our West Division. The ideal candidate will be located within the western part of the United States.


Responsible for overseeing the human resources function in a sub-part of the overall organization. Responsible for overseeing, developing and implementing organization-wide policies and programs encompassing all, or nearly all, aspects of HR Management include employment, employee/labor relations, employee benefits, compensation, training, placement, organizational development, safety, drug control, ADA and EEO compliance and employee assistance.


  • Provide expertise, coaching, consultation and problem solving directly to assigned business leaders or through subordinate HR partners on organizational design and development, change management, recruitment and selection, performance management, employee/managerial development, succession planning, employee relations, training, and policy/procedure interpretations.
  • Develop and lead a team of HR Directors within multiple assigned business units/functions by guiding, developing and implementing a blend of strategic and tactical HR initiatives that are aligned with the business strategy and support the achievement of business objectives.
  • Assists with the development and execution of innovative HR programs that drive business performance improvements and outcomes in collaboration with business executives and HR functions.
  • Identifies leadership development needs and contributes to solutions to improve the capability of managers to lead and manage their employees to achieve business goals.
  • Leads department of HR professionals: establishes clear objectives, coaches, counsels and advises direct report employees. Works with direct reports to define development plans to ensure their professional growth. Responsible for the annual assessment and merit review of all direct report employees, utilizing the company performance management tools.
  • Works with Talent Acquisition to monitor the effectiveness of recruitment and retention programs for the assigned businesses/functions.
  • Ensures proper job definition and application of competitive pay/rewards programs.
  • Assists with execution of Affirmative Action Plans (with outside service), EEO compliance and related diversity initiatives.
  • Works with VP, Talent Management in assessing the effectiveness of the current on-boarding and employee processes currently utilized within the organization, advises as to what processes need to be improved or amended.
  • Drives interpretation, understanding and application of HR policies within and across assigned businesses/functions.
  • Coaches managers on performance management, including the development of performance improvement plans and all aspects of progressive discipline and coaches managers on establishing effective individual development plans.
  • Guides managers in assigned businesses/functions on union-avoidance. May participate in collective bargaining from pre-negotiation planning to union management meetings.
  • Ensures that succession planning ensures that a pipeline of high potential and/or promotable employees are identified and developed to meet future organization needs.
  • In conjunction with Sr. HR Management, develops, implements and evaluates HR policies.
  • Utilizes employee/employment data for business decision-making including but not limited to staffing levels/deployment, turnover, recruitment, applicant tracking, Affirmative Action/EEO, compensation, job grades, promotions, etc.
  • Investigates and resolves major and highly sensitive employee relations problems, in concert with the assigned HR Manager and Legal, if necessary. .
  • May represent the Company at employment-related claims hearings with external agencies.
  • Provide technical guidance.
  • Assist with various projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

May be responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of Human Resources staff.


Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced Degree preferred


  • 15+ years’ experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience internal senior management role (e.g., Vice President); or 10+ years’ external experience in senior management level role.
  • SHRM Certification (SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP) is desirable, or a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience managing one or more departments.
  • Strong management skills with the ability to lead cohesive and productive teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of management through diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to work with all levels of employees within the organization, particularly Executive Management.
  • Must have excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated problem analysis and solution.
  • Must stay current with the general trends in employment and agency law, the labor market and HR best practices.
  • Must be highly organized and able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated achievement in planning, directing and implementing high level projects.
  • Prior experience in a large complex distributed workforce organization.
  • Prior healthcare experience required.
