Job Description

The Account Executive at Merritt Group is a detail-oriented problem-solver with excellent verbal, nonverbal and written communication skills. Account Executives exhibit extraordinary drive and ambition, and the desire to grow as a leader and mentor. They are flexible and comfortable rolling up their sleeves, while maintaining a sense of humor. Account Executives look for opportunities to self-educate and seek out new responsibilities across client teams and the agency in general. Account Executives at Merritt Group exercise sound judgment and are able to respond quickly to change. And, like all Merritt Groupers, they have an insatiable curiosity and interest in technology and business, social media and digital marketing. 


  • Client Relations: Begin developing relationships with clients. Is able to lead sections of client meetings. Identify and respond to current and future client needs with the help of others on the team.

  • PR Planning: Contribute to strategy conversations and make recommendations on execution of PR campaigns. Begin to take ownership of parts of key baseline PR programs (i.e., media or analyst relations projects, speaker programs) with little oversight from their manager. Participate in new client kick-off meetings and quarterly/annual planning meetings; help prepare materials for these sessions.

  • Content Creation: Write solid first drafts of PR documents with little editing needed by their manager, including press releases and blog posts, background materials, speaking abstracts, contributed articles, case studies and more.

  • Media Relations: Start to develop relationships with reporters; manage pitching process from start to finish. Write effective email pitches and tailor phone pitches around announcements that tie to the bigger picture or broader context. Think creatively and proactively about other ways to gain media interest outside of launches and reactive outreach. Research and pitch trade press for special sections, Q&As, etc. to consistently deliver interviews/results. 

  • Analyst Relations: Initiate contact with industry analysts to schedule briefings.

  • Speaking & Awards: Research opportunities; draft award and speaking submissions; manage calendar of events; provide research to teams as needed. Exhibit knowledge of events and opportunities relevant to clients’ respective industries, and indicate an understanding of those that client may not be familiar with.

  • Social Media: Have an understanding about relevant social media channels for our clients; develop compelling social media content; populate that content within social media channels.

  • Marketing: Introduction to digital marketing methodologies, including online content strategy and development, multimedia and social media production and management, email communications, electronic database and content management, and web analytics. Learn best practices across various marketing channels. 

  • Project Management: Introduction to methodologies and best practices within project management, including shadowing senior team members in the areas of project initiation, planning, execution, budgeting, software tools, and working across departments of the agency. 

  • Measurement; Have an understanding of measurement tools and methodologies to better understand the progress of our strategic communications campaigns across paid, earned and owned channels. 

  • Agency Operations: Volunteer for projects as time warrants; research and bring new ideas to the team’s attention; develop an understanding of all social media platforms and relevant media outlets; and complete and submit accurate timesheets and monthly reports on time.


  • Client-Focused: Show a genuine interest in consumer technology and take the time to learn each client’s business and competitive landscape. Has an active voice in client meetings. Is execution-oriented and meets or exceeds all deadlines. 

  • Action-Oriented: Able to identify problems and work proactively with their manager to find solutions. 

  • Team Player: Provide support for every aspect of designated accounts and work closely with teammates to deliver exceptional results. Work well in a collaborative team environment. 

  • Communicate with Candor: Open to new ideas and change, and committed to being direct in all communication with colleagues and teammates. Receive feedback positively and implement immediately. 


  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • One to two years of working experience, including internships


  • Prior PR agency or in-house experience  

  • Degree in communications, journalism, public administration, English, or related field
