Head of University Strategy & Outreach
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Head of University Strategy and Outreach, are to:
Responsible for providing overall leadership for our efforts to manage Bayer's growing need for PhD- and MS-level plant breeding talent. With specific focus on enabling key partnerships in major markets in North America, Latin America and Europe;
Responsible for providing the strategic direction of Breeding participation with senior leaders in industry organizations, scientific societies and agencies, and key universities;
Reports to the Head of Sustainability & Outreach in the Global Breeding organization;
Talent Sourcing and Recruiting:
Define and execute an investment and sourcing strategy for long-term success in recruiting Ph.D. and Mater's level talent, this includes the identification and management of strategic relationships, exploring new models of partnerships, setting long range plan for investment, establishment of associated agreements with academic institutions;
Lead University outreach on behalf of the Breeding organization globally, while partnering with Emerging Talent to leverage sourcing strategies;
Define and lead a broad strategy with academic institutions representing Bayer's presence on university campuses;
Build relationships with key university senior leaders, professors, administrators and students;
Lead best-in-class engagement and relationship programing with prospective students;
Represent and speak on behalf of Bayer as a leader of key innovations and technologies at key industry and academic meetings and conferences;
Manage strategic hiring of top talent students into full-time roles and US-based internships to meet talent needs in Breeding;
Evaluate organizational needs of critical technical Breeding talent segments over next 5 to 10 years;
Determine macro level variables impacting hiring and link outcomes to the broader relationship and investment strategy;
Design and facilitate with academic partners unique ways to improve and accelerate talent development in critical Breeding Talent segments for long term needs;
Play a leadership role in national and international committees regarding education and investment in training curriculums to ensure Bayer needs are represented;
Define and execute an investment and participation strategy for long term success for Breeding and broader R&D participation in industry organizations and scientific societies, this includes managing key linkages, participation and investment strategies, and maintaining Bayer's participation on key leadership teams;
Serve in leadership role in at least one key scientific society.
WHO YOU ARE
Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience OR Master's degree with 10+ years of experience OR Ph.D. with 6+ years of professional and/or post doc. experience in a science, engineering, technology discipline or equivalent;
5+ years of related experience in relationship building with universities, students and scientific societies;
5+ years of people leadership experience through leading people directly or through leading project teams;
Exemplary communication, storytelling and collaboration skills across a range of public and private stakeholders, from researchers to senior leaders;
Highly driven and organized, with high agility to manage projects across multiple technologies and disciplines;
Demonstrated ability to lead in ambiguous situations with minimal direction;
Demonstrates a passion for recruiting and industry issues;
Collaborates with functional representatives in aligning priorities;
Strong understanding of R&D strategy and how Breeding contributes to it;
Serves as a mentor and coach to leadership and hiring managers as related to recruiting breeders and participation in scientific societies.
