Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr Database Engineer to join our innovative application development and support team at AlloSource, a leading tissue bank. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server; a strong background in database management and SQL programming; and a passion for maintaining data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role is critical to our mission of advancing medical technology and ensuring the highest quality of our products.
Anticipated Application Deadline: August 7, 2025 (1:00PM MST)
Pay: $95,773 /yr. - $111,673/yr. based upon relevant years of experience
Shift: Monday-Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm Hybrid schedule, working three days in the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Database Management and Performance:
- Administer, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases to ensure high performance and reliability.
- Proactively monitor system performance, conduct regular tuning, and troubleshoot complex database issues.
- Perform and automate routine database maintenance tasks using scripts and tools to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Database Security:
- Manage database encryption and masking to protect sensitive information.
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
- Maintain and enforce robust database security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data.
Data Backup and Recovery:
- Maintain comprehensive backup and disaster recovery plans.
- Perform regular backups, conduct restore tests, and validate data integrity and availability.
- Configure, manage, and maintain SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including monitoring of cluster health, failover events, and synchronization status.
Database Design and Development:
- Collaborate with application developers to design and optimize efficient and scalable database schemas.
- Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, and scripts to support dynamic application functionality and project requirements.
- Ensure data models adhere to industry standards and company requirements, fostering consistency and quality.
- Collaborate with data integration specialists to support ETL processes and data warehousing.
- Develop and establish source control processes for SQL Server objects and scripts.
Report Development:
- Develop, optimize, and support advanced SQL-based solutions to fulfill complex reporting requests.
- Design, build, and maintain high-performance reports and dashboards in SSRS and Power BI, aligned with both operational and executive decision-making needs.
- Establish and follow best practices for report lifecycle management, including Git-based version control and documentation of report logic.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and IT staff members to deliver reports and dashboards based on defined requirements.
Support and Maintenance:
- Provide expert-level support for database-related issues and coordinate with IT staff members to resolve them swiftly.
- Plan and execute maintenance activities, including upgrades and patches, to ensure database systems are current and secure.
- Be available for off-hours maintenance and on-call rotations to maintain system uptime.
- Provide training and mentoring to junior DBAs and other IT staff on database best practices and new technologies.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Document all database configurations, processes, and procedures thoroughly and accurately.
- Ensure full compliance with industry regulations and standards, particularly those relevant to medical devices.
Capacity Planning:
- Perform capacity planning and forecasting to ensure databases can handle future growth and demands.
- Monitor and manage database storage to optimize performance and cost efficiency.
- Adhere to and promote proper practices and techniques which are consistent with current operating procedures, training requirements, safety practices and company policies.
- May perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 11 years of directly related experience in lieu of a degree
- Database Administration: Minimum of 6-9 years of experience as a Database Administrator/Engineer.
- Microsoft SQL Server: Proven experience with Microsoft SQL Server and associated tools (e.g., SSMS, SSRS, SSIS).
- SQL Programming: Minimum of 6 years of experience in creating and fine-tuning complex queries with SQL programming.
- Performance Tuning: Experience in database performance tuning and optimization.
- Backup and Recovery: Strong understanding of data backup, recovery, security, and integrity practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to communicate in English proficiently (speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension)
Preferred Experience:
- Performance Tuning: Experience in database performance tuning and optimization.
- Backup and Recovery: Strong understanding of data backup, recovery, security, and integrity practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to communicate in English proficiently (speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension)
- Regulated Industry: Experience working within a regulated industry.
- Database Administration & SQL Programming: 5+ years of experience in database administration and SQL programming, especially within the medical device manufacturing industry.
- Microsoft-Centric Environment: Experience with Microsoft-centric environments (e.g., Windows Server, Azure).
- Best Practices: Familiarity with database design and development best practices in a regulated industry.
- HIPAA and PII Compliance: Knowledge and experience in ensuring database systems comply with HIPAA regulations and protecting Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Project Management Experience
- Experience using and/or configuring the following platforms and tools:
- ServiceNow
- Linux
- PostgreSQL
- DBT
- Data warehousing concepts and processes
