JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Summary of Duties: Direct, supervise and work with ironworkers in lay-out, installation, assembly and erection of steel components in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Plan and coordinate the efforts of the craft workers under his/her supervision and motivate them to accomplish the work safely, correctly, and efficiently.


Essential Abilities, Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned as required):
• Be able to perform all of the essential functions of the craft workers under his/her supervision.
• Perform task planning to safely and efficiently carry out all aspects of that work assigned.
• Train/teach safety practices, policies, and procedures related to an employee’s assigned tasks. Provide on the job training to those individuals under his/her supervision. Ensure that ironworkers are qualified to perform their work.
• Develop a thorough understanding of the project plans, specifications, and schedules as they relate to that portion of the work assigned.
• Conduct tail gate meetings and communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans, and schedules to the crews.
• Plan and communicate with the shipping department, purchasing and supervisor to assure that an adequate supply of tools, materials, and equipment are available.
• Ensure through personal inspections that correct construction procedures are followed and work is in compliance with the plans and specifications. Point out deficiencies, explain, and take corrective action as needed.
• Complete crew’s timecards for correct hours and job coding. Monitor and report quantities of work accomplished on a daily basis.
• In addition, perform other job-specific duties and have a basic understanding of the scheduling, material control, and productivity management systems.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education – High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) Preferred
• Experience – Must be a highly qualified journeyman ironworker with at least 10 years’ experience.
• Communication Skills – Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to understand information, ideas, direction and then be able to perform the task or project discussed. Also, to be able to ask questions to ensure you understand the information given.
• Must set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity for the members of the crew.
• Must be able to read and understand plans and specifications.
• Must have thorough knowledge of crane signals and rigging procedures.
• Must have good computer literacy
