Job Details
We’ve been exclusively retained by a global manufacturing company with a strong Midwest presence to find their next Category Manager. This role sits within a highly visible and growing team responsible for building out the supply chain strategy across multiple product lines.
This person will be responsible for managing spending and suppliers for the divisions they oversee. The ideal candidate is someone with experience, comfortable working 50/50 between strategy and execution—and excited to get in on the ground floor of a brand-new team.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop sourcing strategies to improve supplier quality, reduce risk, and drive cost savings
- Oversee buyers, ensure inventory levels are optimized, and lead supplier negotiations
- Partner with engineering, operations, and quality to execute supplier management programs
- Approve purchase orders, oversee major project awareness, and manage supplier onboarding
- Work closely with global stakeholders—this includes the opportunity to travel (as needed) and represent the team at a global supply chain summit
Ideal Background:
- 7+ years in sourcing, category management, or supply chain within a manufacturing or industrial setting
- Strong international sourcing experience; familiarity with imported components
- Able to navigate both tactical (POs, inventory, buyer oversight) and strategic (supply base optimization, risk mitigation) tasks
- Excellent negotiation, supplier management, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or industry certification preferred (CPM, CSCP, etc.)
