A Residential - Multifamily Real Estate Management Group in Orange County is looking to hire a Controller to their team to oversee all things accounting and finance.

This person will lead a team of property accountants and should have 4+ years of prior management experience, strong property accounting experience, and well well-versed with MRI, Yardi, or RealaPage.

We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Property Controller for our multifamily apartments. This exciting role is within the mortgage industry, offering a unique opportunity to manage a broad portfolio of multifamily residential properties. The Property Controller will oversee all aspects of the financial and accounting functions for a portfolio of multifamily residential properties, including the preparation of financial statements and reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and property and portfolio level analysis. This role requires a high level of financial expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities:

The Property Controller will be responsible for:

1. Overseeing the financial management of a portfolio of multifamily residential properties including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and property level analysis.

2. Ensuring accurate and timely month-end and year-end close process, including the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

3. Managing the MRI software system to ensure accurate and efficient financial reporting.

4. Providing strategic financial guidance and support to property managers and senior management, including the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.

5. Conducting regular financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.

6. Coordinating with external auditors and ensuring compliance with all applicable financial regulations and standards.

7. Leading and mentoring a team of property accountants, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the Property Controller role will have:

1. A minimum of 5 years of experience in property management accounting or a related field, with a focus on multifamily residential properties.

2. Strong knowledge of MRI software and the ability to leverage this system for efficient and accurate financial reporting.

3. Proven experience in managing the month-end and year-end close process, including the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

4. Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of developing high-performing teams.

5. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic financial guidance.

6. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

7. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation is preferred.

8. Experience in the mortgage industry is considered an asset.
