About Imagia:
Imagia is a venture-backed technology company on the forefront of commercializing breakthrough optical metasurfaces. We place an emphasis on achieving radically new and innovative solutions that are impossible to achieve with traditional optics. Applications span a wide range of advanced display and image sensing platforms.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated Nanofabrication Engineer (Intern) to join the Imagia team in support of advanced metasurface optics research and development at Stanford and UC Berkeley’s nanofabrication facilities. This 3-to-6-month internship provides extensive training and hands-on experience with state-of-the-art micro- and nanofabrication tools, processes, and methods. Successful performance during the internship may lead to a full-time employment opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
· Responsible for fabricating Imagia’s optical metastructures utilizing the Stanford Nano Shared Facilities and UC Berkeley Nanofabrication Laboratory.
· Operate cleanroom equipment for photolithography (direct-write and mask-based), electron beam lithography (EBL), thin film deposition (PVD, CVD/PECVD), etching (dry and wet), and metrology (SEM, FIB-SEM, optical microscopy).
· Support process development, troubleshooting, and optimization for optical and photonic device fabrication, including metamaterials and nanomaterials.
· Fully trained and qualified by the staff of Stanford and Berkeley Nanofab facilities to independently operate the required tools and processes.
· Maintain regular communication and coordination with Imagia’s product development and design teams.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
· 1-2 years of hands-on experience in nanofabrication or semiconductor manufacturing within cleanroom environments.
· Familiarity with cleanroom protocols, process integration, and operation of nanofabrication equipment.
· Strong skills in data analysis, technical documentation, and clear communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience working in Stanford SNSF and/or UC Berkeley Nanofabrication Laboratory.
· Exposure to advanced lithography techniques (e-beam lithography, direct write, mask-based, maskless), PVD/CVD deposition processes, dry/wet etching, and nanostructure characterization methods.
· Background in semiconductor processing, optical device fabrication, photonics, or nanomaterials/metamaterials.
Key Attributes:
· Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
· Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
· Desire to learn, grow, and potentially transition into a permanent position.
Work Environment:
· Position requires frequent standing, cleanroom gowning, and handling of chemicals and equipment in a cleanroom setting.
