Senior Manager, Tax Practice (Required: CPA)
Job Description
Avantax, Inc. (Avantax), a unique community within Cetera Holdings, is seeking a Senior Manager, Tax Practice who is a talented CPA (Certified Public Accountant) with strong leadership values and a client-centric mindset. The successful candidate will contribute to the growth and direction of our dynamic tax team. The Sr. Manager will work alongside our tax team to develop and scale our domestic tax preparation, compliance, and tax planning offerings, while partnering with our wealth team to create a more holistic and comprehensive solution for clients through the integration of these two service lines.
What You Will Do:
- Manage a team of tax preparers and planners with varying experience levels.
- Coordinate, review, and sign state and federal tax returns, quarterly estimated payments, and annual report filings.
- Perform advanced tax research and prepare comprehensive memoranda or client correspondence.
- Apply functional knowledge to identify potential tax issues and participate in tax planning.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, including billing responsibilities as appropriate.
- Ensure service level agreements are met to deliver an optimal client experience.
- Work independently and collaboratively on both complex and routine tax projects.
- Act as Project Manager for special projects as requested by leadership.
- Manage, mentor, and train Tax Associates and Senior Tax Associates.
- Prepare and edit client correspondence, memoranda, and deliverables.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need:
- Active CPA license is required.
- A Master’s Degree in Taxation or MBA is preferred.
- At least 8 years of experience preparing federal individual, fiduciary, and small business (Corporate; S-Corp; Partnerships) tax returns in public accounting.
- At least 5 years of management experience, demonstrating the ability to develop and grow associates.
- Ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Compensation:
The annual base salary ranges from $160,000 to $180,000, plus performance-based bonuses. Salary depends on factors such as experience, certifications, and location, and may vary based on geographic and labor market considerations.
