We are seeking a highly skilled Director of Infrastructure & Municipal Services to lead and manage the operations of a comprehensive public works department. This senior leadership role involves oversight of critical municipal functions including water and wastewater systems, solid waste, roads, streets, stormwater drainage, and capital planning.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee the strategic planning, budgeting, and operations of municipal utility and public works divisions
- Evaluate the adequacy of current infrastructure and services; develop long- and short-term maintenance and capital improvement plans
- Lead a team of department managers and staff to achieve organizational goals
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
- Prepare and present detailed reports and recommendations to executive leadership and elected officials
- Review and authorize specifications, bidding, and permitting for major infrastructure projects
- Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, vendors, regulatory bodies, and the community
- Respond to citizen concerns and oversee resolution of public works issues
- Serve as a liaison during emergency management situations and coordinate mutual aid
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 4 years’ progressive supervisory experience in Public Works and/or Utilities
- In-depth knowledge of municipal water/wastewater systems, road/storm water infrastructure, and solid waste management
- Expertise in budgeting, public sector management, and regulatory compliance
- Strong leadership, organizational, and public speaking skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
Preferred Certifications:
- Dual licenses in Water and Wastewater (preferred)
- Class "C" Stormwater Operator License
- Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification
- NIMS (National Incident Management System) certification
- Trench Safety certified
Work Environment:
