This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an On-Call Project Manager to work out of Washington, DC or New York, City, NY.

Be involved in projects with our Federal Environmental Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

This individual would be part of an interdisciplinary team that supports clients with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, federal-level review of technical reports and management plans, and analysis of compliance with the Federal Power Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and other regulatory requirements.

The Project Manager must successfully manage multidisciplinary teams, meet deadlines, and keep a project within the contracted budget. The Project Manager will provide supervisory, technical and administrative directions for personnel performing specific tasks. The Project Manager will coordinate with the FERC Task Monitor to ensure problem resolution for individual tasks. To ensure success, the Project Manager must have the capability to communicate both orally and in writing with the Task Monitor to express conceptual as well as pragmatic ways to maintain a high quality document while ensuring a timely delivery within the agreed budget.

Your Impact

  • Providing project team and clients with management expertise regarding potential impacts and mitigation related to hydroelectric and other types of water resource projects.

  • Preparation and senior review of resources analysis related to Environmental Impact Statement / Environmental Assessment documents, primarily regarding licensing, relicensing, amendment or surrender of licenses for hydroelectric projects.

  • Preparation and senior review of biological assessments and study plan determinations related to the licensing and relicensing of hydroelectric projects.

  • Performing quality control reviews of NEPA documents prepared by other team members for the types of documents described above.

  • Managing interdisciplinary teams preparing the types of documents described above.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in the environmental sciences, geophysical sciences, or related.

  • 10+ years recent and relevant experience with hydropower licensing and/or NEPA compliance, and environmental technical report writing.

  • Evidence of five years of work, within the last ten years, successfully managing multidisciplinary teams, meeting deadlines, and keeping a project within a contracted budget.

  • A minimum of three years of work experience, within the last ten years, in preparing sections of environmental assessments (EA) or environmental impact statements (EIS) pursuant to the rules and regulations that implement the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and in the field of hydropower impact assessment, is required.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines, including FERC hydropower regulations, is essential.

  • This position will primarily be an office position with limited field work.

  • There will be periodic travel (estimated between 5-10%) with the potential for overnight stays.This position requires excellent communication, technical, and writing skills; attention to detail; and the ability to work independently and as a part of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Excellent organization and time management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in in the environmental sciences, geophysical sciences, or related.

  • High-level knowledge of hydroelectric licensing regulations and federal environmental laws and their implementing regulations, including, but not limited to: Federal Power Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and National Environmental Policy Act.

  • Knowledge of current issues and processes related to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, including but not limited to hydroelectric project licensing, relicensing, and license surrender/decommissioning.

Compensation and Benefits:

Expected Hourly Rate Regardless of Location: $70-75/hour.
