Certified Health Physicist – Uranium Mine Reclamation Project (Contract)


Location: San Mateo Creek Basin, New Mexico (Hybrid – Onsite & Remote)

Client: New Mexico Environment Department (NMED)

Employment Type: Contract (Up to 4 Years)

Clearance: Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Hours: 4-8 per month

Pay: $100/hr - $110/hr


🔍 Overview:

We are seeking a Certified Health Physicist (CHP) with significant expertise in radiological surveying and environmental remediation to support a long-term uranium mine reclamation initiative across former mine sites in New Mexico. This professional will ensure compliance with federal and state radiation standards, direct field sampling protocols, and provide strategic guidance throughout the project lifecycle.


🧭 Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead radiological assessments and health physics reviews at former uranium mining sites.
  • Develop and review Sampling and Analysis Plans, Health and Safety Plans (HASP), and Radiological Survey Work Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with 40 CFR 192, 10 CFR 40, and MARSSIM standards for radiation protection.
  • Oversee radiological aspects of groundwater/soil sampling, air monitoring, and waste material characterization.
  • Provide geospatial deliverables and map-based data in formats such as ArcGIS, GeoTIFF, and shapefiles.
  • Advise on cleanup alternatives, shielding and safeguarding recommendations, and long-term monitoring strategies.
  • Support public engagement, community meetings, and response to technical inquiries from stakeholders.


✅ Qualifications:

  • Board Certification in Health Physics required (ABHP or equivalent).
  • Minimum 7–10 years of relevant experience in uranium site reclamation, environmental health physics, and radiological safety.
  • Strong understanding of EPA, NRC, DOE, and OSHA radiation standards.
  • Experience with radiological data collection, risk assessments, and remediation planning.
  • Proficiency in geospatial data tools, radiological instrumentation, and technical reporting.
  • Excellent communication and public presentation skills.
