Role Description
This is a full-time role for a Certified Medical Assistant at Rutgers University. The Certified Medical Assistant will be responsible for medical assisting, using medical terminology, managing medical office tasks, providing patient care, and maintaining medical records. The role is based in New Brunswick, NJ.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Creates and maintains health record information, files and organizes as needed.
- Communicates with insurance providers and handles pre-authorizations and certifications as necessary.
- Communicates with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing physician or health practitioner.
- Performs clinical tasks such as blood draws, EKGs, hearing and vision screens, urinalysis, and blood glucose testing.
- Prepares rooms, arranges instruments and equipment, and ensures a neat and sanitary environment.
- Rooms patients, verifies patient information, confirms purpose of visit, obtains and records vitals and updates medical history.
- Supports practice needs with clerical tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, preparing lab requests.
Qualifications
- Medical Assisting and Patient Care skills
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology
- Experience in Medical Office tasks and Medical Records management
- Certification as a Medical Assistant
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Experience in a university or healthcare setting is a plus
