Essential Duties

  1. Focus on establishing and maintaining strong intellectual control over content throughout the life cycle of electronic resources licensed by Yale University Library (YUL). 2. Supervise staff responsible for maintaining key e-resource systems and workflows. Participate in hiring, training, coaching and evaluating the work of staff members.3. Work closely with staff across the Electronic Resources and Serials teams and with partner departments to ensure efficient acquisition and access to electronic resources for library users. Provide e‐resource expertise both internally to library staff and externally to vendors and the larger Yale community.4. Participate in planning and implementing new services, and supporting and improving existing services.5. Responsible for ensuring consistency in service quality, best practices, and procedures.6. Contribute advanced knowledge to departmental troubleshooting support, resolving access‐related problems,responding to reported issues, and working with internal and external partners to fix issues in a timely manner.7. Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices related to e‐resources.8. Play an active role in e‐resource related projects and initiatives as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Master's degree from an ALA‐accredited library school. In selected instances, a post‐graduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for a master's degree in library science.2. The ability to apply the principles that guide the organization of bibliographic information to the organization of electronic resources.3. An understanding of the best practices for managing the records that track electronic purchases, subscriptions, andlicenses.4. Demonstrated ability working in an integrated library system.5. Conceptual and practical knowledge of the technologies used to manage and access e‐resources.6. Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated analytical and organizational skills. Position Focus:

Yale University Library seeks a highly collaborative and service-oriented individual for the position of Manager, E-Resources Acquisitions. The Manager of E-Resources Acquisitions provides a vision for establishing and maintaining strong intellectual control over content throughout the acquisitions lifecycle. Within a changing and flexible environment, this individual works closely with colleagues and vendors to effectively manage the acquisition and licensing of new electronic resources as well as the renewal of existing subscriptions within Yale's diverse research collections. Works closely with other units within E-Resources and Serials Management (ERSM) and partner departments to establish best practices that ensure the efficient acquisition and licensing of both routine and complex electronic resources in support of the library's broader mission. Works closely with partners to ensure consistent access to library holdings across multiple platforms including the library's catalog and discovery services.

Essential duties include: Oversees ordering of electronic content in Yale's library management system and license tracking system. Supervises key e-resource life cycle processes including trial access, license management, and the collection of usage statistics for electronic resources; recommends and implements improvements to existing tools and workflows. Takes an active role in the library's license review process. Collaborates on the optimization of information management and discovery systems and workflows; oversees data reporting and analysis to support operational work. Provides e-resource expertise both internally to library staff and externally to vendors and the larger Yale community. Contributes advanced knowledge to departmental troubleshooting support.

The Manager of E-Resources Acquisitions participates in recruitment, managing, training, developing, and directly supervising unit staff; plans, manages, and assesses process and workflow change; fosters a team approach to the work; and establishes metrics, tracks progress, and regularly reports on the unit's work.

The Manager of E-Resource Acquisitions manages projects and participates in library- and university-wide committees and task forces, especially as they relate to the needs of e-resource and serials management at Yale; participates in regional, national, and international professional activities-both to contribute to the profession and to grow individually as a professional librarian.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Demonstrated ability managing acquisitions processes within an LMS. Knowledge of e-resource licensing and the legal framework in which it takes place. Understanding of access issues as they pertain to the discovery and use of e-resources. Demonstrated record of designing projects and completing them in a timely manner. Demonstrated capability to effectively supervise, train and motivate staff.
