Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in related field

Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area

Ability to work effectively between the school and community

Effective written & verbal communication skills

CPI Certificate, once employed

Primary Purpose:

Provides special educat

ion consultation and instruction to meet the need of eligible students with disabilities. Communicate with campus staff, district special education staff, and parents/guardians information pertaining to student needs (such as but not exclusively: ARD paperwork, IEP's, BIP' and general progress)

Major Duties and Responsibilities: (In addition to Teacher Job Description.)

  1. Prepare documents and attend ARD/IEP meetings for students eligible for special education.
  2. Complete local, state and federal paperwork required for program participation
  3. Develop instructional programs for eligible students to achieve mastery of the essential knowledge and skills.
  4. Collaborate with regular education teachers and related service staff to develop PLAAFP and annual goals/objectives for IEPs and to assist in providing an appropriate education for eligible students.
  5. Administer criterion referenced testing.
  6. Keep current and be willing to apply the state of the art educational practices.
  7. Oversee the responsibilities of the paraprofessional in implementing student programs, to include training in regards to data collection and implementation of specific instructional strategies.
  8. Collect & maintain data related to student progress and grades.
  9. Report progress on IEP goals/objectives and grades as stipulated by district policy & ARD documents.
  10. Provide appropriate behavior management techniques for eligible students
  11. Complete State Assessment requirements for eligible students
  12. Communicate regularly w general education and parents/guardians regarding student progress/needs/concerns.
  13. Maintain confidential student records & audit folders.
  14. Attend district required and job specific trainings & staff development (i.e., training on Autism, content specific trainings, structured settings, etc.).
  15. Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  16. Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, copier, printer, calculator, laminator. Adaptive equipment - Wheelchair, wheelchair lifts, wheelchair restraints, ramps, locks, electric changing table, Hoyer lift, various physical therapy equipment, assistive technology including voice output devices, and technology teaching tools (i.e., SMART Board).

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposed to biological hazards.
