Job Summary

As a telemetry nurse, you will be responsible for collecting and monitoring patient vitals using a variety of advanced medical instruments, including EKG, ECG, EMG, blood pressure monitor, SpO2, dialysis machines, and respiratory rate monitor. Using this technology, you may be monitoring patients with a variety of health conditions such as high blood pressure, renal failure, cancer, cardiovascular disease, or respiratory illness.

Under the direction of a physician, you will develop individual patient care plans based on health history and current symptoms and presentation. It is vital that a telemetry nurse knows exactly how to operate the advanced medical technology necessary to assess patient health. Using this equipment, you will perform various diagnostic tests and inform the doctor of any changes.

This job entails a high level of responsibility for the safety of patients and staff. You must have a detailed understanding of nursing ethics and professional practice standards, relevant state regulations, and hospital policies. An RN must also possess excellent communication, critical thinking, organizational, and computer skills.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited nursing program

  • A minimum of one year working in the telemetry unit or acute specialty setting preferred

Licensure and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse Licensure within the state of practice
  • Certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association (AHA) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) certification

  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
