1:1 Nurse works on student attendance days only and 2 inservice days.

Community Unit School District 200 is seeking a 1:1 Nurse to establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with the Certified School Nurse, health aide, teachers and administration to assist in identifying and problem solving medical/ psychological social health care for a medically fragile child. To administer student medication using professional nursing experience, for medical and educational benefit following State Guidelines. To assess student health status and provide appropriate nursing care for the 1:1 assigned student.

Reports to: Certified School Nurse/Building Administrator/Health Services Chair

Job Status: 10 months/school year

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Good nursing and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • HCP CPR Certification completion
  • Current First Aid recommended
  • Pediatric nursing experience desirable
Essential Job Functions:
  • Maintain appropriate documentation/medication records for assigned student
  • Administer daily and PRN student medications per doctor's order for individual student.
  • Provide doctor ordered treatments for individual student.
  • Communicate with School Nurse regarding observations of students on medication, medication, follow-up needed, etc.
  • Assist with first aid as needed, provide nursing assessment for individual student
The 1:1 Nurse will:
  • Provide professional nursing care according to the Plan of Care and the Individual Health Care Plan for the student, to meet the medical needs of the student in the classroom/school setting.
  • Use nursing assessment skills to evaluate the condition of the student and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Accompany the student to other locations in the building, lunch, classes, and community, as the student's schedule requires.
  • Accompany the student to and from home on the school bus if needed.
  • Communicate with the classroom teacher throughout the day regarding the student's functioning in the classroom.
  • Assist the student with academic and behavioral goals during the school day, under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Participate in planning meetings as a classroom team member providing for the student as needed.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding medical concerns affecting the student in the school setting.
  • Assist other students, medically and/or academically, if situations arise and if requested by the school nurse or teacher.
  • The classroom teacher or school nurse will assign you to other appropriate duties if your student is absent.
  • The classroom nurse will work under the supervision of the Health Services Department Chairperson and the school nurse as well as building administrator.
Physical Ability:
Work in classroom environments. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking, and standing.

Work Environment:
Use standard office equipment, such as computers, copiers, telephones etc. Potential exposure to communicable diseases. Noise level may be loud at times.
