Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Structural Analysis Engineer (MRB) or Principal Structural Analysis Engineer (MRB).


The successful candidate will be part of a team that provides stress analysis to support analysis substantiation for repair and MRB design solutions of flight hardware. This position is located in Clearfield, UT and will support a weekday evenings night shift (9/80 schedule). Typical shift is 2:30 pm – 12 am but this can be adjusted.


May be eligible for shift premium in addition to base pay.

You will be a part of an Integrated Product Team supporting production and new product designs that maximize the use of metallic and composite materials for state of the art commercial and military programs. We collaborate with internal engineering teams and departments to address and resolve issues and ensure the on-time delivery of structures and assemblies to our customers. Our team works with cutting edge exotic materials and novel products to innovate within our mission, working across the facility supporting large composite structures. Essential Functions:

  • Provides stress analysis to support dispositions of flight hardware
  • Candidate will substantiate structural capability of discrepant parts and assemblies fabricated from composite and metallic materials.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills are a must.
  • Experience working with composite primary aircraft structures is highly desirable.
  • Performs finite element modeling of metallic and composite material components
  • Static, fatigue, dynamics, damage tolerance and other structural analysis methods are highly desirable

This role may be filled at either the Structural Analysis Engineer (MRB) or Principal Structural Analysis Engineer (MRB) level. Qualifications for these levels are as follows:

Structural Analysis Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) with 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM field with 0 years of experience.
  • Experience with or knowledge of structural analysis of composite and metallic materials
  • Experience with or knowledge of finite element analysis
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance. This clearance must be obtained prior to start and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR). This PAR must be obtained prior to start and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Principal Structural Analysis Engineer

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) with 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s Degree in STEM and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM field with 0 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with structural analysis of composite and metallic materials
  • Demonstrated experience with finite element analysis
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance. This clearance must be obtained prior to start and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR). This PAR must be obtained prior to start and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Practical experience with aircraft composite structures
  • Experience with substantiating structural repairs for composite and metallic structures
  • Experience with finite element software such as Femap and Nastran
  • Experience with fatigue analysis software such as AFGROW
  • General understanding of Aerospace practices, policies, and procedures
  • Detail orientated, self-starter, ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Experience leading and/or mentoring engineers in structural analysis fundamentals
  • Active DoD Secret clearance
