Registered Nurse - Student Specific

Job Description:

Providing and documenting daily medical care for a designated student while maintaining confidentiality. Support student health needs as student specific nurse per district and site protocols and policies. This is a district based position and assignment can vary based on student need.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:

  • Associates Degree in Nursing: Registered Nurse

EQUIPMENT & VEHICLES USED:

  • Personal vehicle and driver's license

  • Mostly clean and comfortable

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Occasional lifting of forty (40) to seventy (70) pounds
  • Frequent bending, standing, sitting, and walking
  • Occasional reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting, and standing

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

Responsibilities:

Communicate with the nurse coordinator when unable to work.

Recognize that the teacher is the instructional leader and the teacher will be responsible for making the educational and instructional decisions with regard to the student at all times.

Work in a collaborative, collegial, and professional manner with the student's teacher, classroom instructional assistants, nurse coordinator, school nurse, principal/designee, and all other school staff.

Document all medical interventions with the student while at school and school-related events on the provided daily documentation record, including documentation in the Medicaid ezEdMed system.

Provide copies of all medical orders/updates to the school nurse, nurse coordinator, to be maintained with the student's Individualized Health Plan (medical orders may be provided directly or through the parent).

Become thoroughly familiar with the implementation of the student's transportation procedures, emergency protocols, and emergency evacuation procedures and be prepared to carry out these procedures.

Communicate supply needs to school nurse consultant.

Accompany the student during designated school times/events. Details of coverage for the nurse's personal needs will be defined at the school site.

Be primarily responsible for the student's daily medical care while at school and school-related events during the school day (ex. field trips), including medical devices such as ventilators, tracheostomies and gastric tube feedings. May include riding the bus to and from school if the student uses DCSD transportation.

Follow all expectations listed in the Douglas County School District employee handbook and school board policies.

Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Certifications:

Current Colorado RN License in good standing - Colorado DORA

Education:

Associate's Degree: Nursing (Required)

Skills:

Collaborative team player, Demonstrated understanding and empathy necessary for working with students., Effective oral and written communication skills, General knowledge of the care of children with complex, chronic medical needs including tracheostomy, ventilator and gastrostomy feeding management, Maintains a generally positive attitude, Observes all District policies and procedures, Strong organizational and time management skills, Verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions

$23.39 USD Hourly

Full Salary Range:

$23.39 USD - $36.73 USD Hourly

  • All salary amounts listed above are based on a full-time (1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated according to the assigned FTE.
