Under general supervision provides nursing services to students in the University community.

Essential Duties Summary

  • Observes and screens patients, monitors vital signs, administers medications, collects lab samples and reports patient's condition to physician. Refers patients to physician and schedules appointments as appropriate.
  • Assists with front office duties: greeting and directing patients and visitors, assisting students with checking in, answering phones, assisting with records management.
  • Assists the physician/nurse practitioner in providing for specific health care needs of students. Prepares patient and necessary equipment for examinations, and assists physician as necessary.
  • Renders first aid and assists in emergency situations. Informs the Director of Health of problems and emergencies.
  • Conducts and participates in health care seminars and health fairs on University campus to educate the University population about basic health care. Consults with students to discuss health problems.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment and exam/treatment rooms and restocks supplies and medications.
  • Establishes and maintains departmental files according to University policies, practices and procedures and HIPAA/FERPA regulations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range Commensurate with experience. Education

Some college or Associate's degree and/or vocational or technical school and/or specialized training or certification.

Required Licensing/Certification

  • State of Texas Licensed Vocational Nurse
  • CPR Certification
  • Valid Texas Driver's License preferred

  • Requires full/complete knowledge in multiple disciplines and serves as an ultimate subject matter expert in at least one discipline or function. Demonstrates full command of technical and functional principles, procedures, and subject matter in multiple disciplines to handle any situation and lead or train others. Requires the ability to lead the development or modification of work procedures across multiple disciplines.
  • Banner and other job-related software systems.
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.
