About the Position:

As the Vice President, Risk Management you will play a key role in the safe and sound operations of First Internet Bank, and will be responsible for administering and continuously improving the Bank’s enterprise risk management (ERM) program. You will support key strategic initiatives and work in partnership with a variety of business units to maintain a culture of compliance that reflects shared values, goals, and practices. You will provide an independent risk perspective to help ensure that management’s business decisions are fully risk-informed and aligned with the Risk Appetite. This is a highly visible position, and you will work with executives and business line owners.

You will be responsible for the innovation, governance, and management to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the Bank’s operational risks. You will be responsible for developing Enterprise Risk Management tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks, and to manage risks according to the enterprise risk management framework. This position is key to ensure the Bank’s risk management policies and strategies follow applicable regulations.

What You Will Do:

  • Represents the Enterprise Risk Management area in a leadership role, demonstrating core values, supporting Bank policies and procedures and encouraging a common culture throughout the Bank
  • Collaborates with all levels of management to identify and implement solutions to continuously drive improvement in governance and practice regarding the areas of risk, compliance, and information security
  • Provides leadership in the strategic development, implementation and oversight of an effective risk management program
  • Works across all support functions and lines of business in order to understand the current risk environment, processes, and operational perspectives to ensure appropriate mitigation strategies, policies, and procedures are in place
  • Assesses and documents risk profiles and risk appetites for the organization as a whole and within defined risk categories. Directs the development of appropriate risk dashboards and reporting formats. Quantifies and aggregates risks using advanced risk analytics and conducts periodic risk assessments to ensure appropriate actions are taken as required
  • Develops and maintains an internal organizational risk assessment program to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and control institutional risk
  • Assists is assessing and overseeing the risk assessment process and reporting for the fintech partnership line of business
  • Ensures compliance with operating policies, procedures, and outside regulatory agencies to support safe and sound business operations
  • Implements strategies and processes of limiting risk through appropriate risk identification, measurement, and control
  • Remains current with industry topics including elements relating to accounting, auditing, compliance, regulation, operations, best practices, and emerging risks
  • Participates in special projects, reviews of proposed acquisitions, new strategies and significant products; provides consultation specific to projects relating to risks, processes, and controls
  • Directly supervises assigned employees and engages in activities to effectively manage performance and support employee growth and development
  • Organizes the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management Committee
  • Oversees the company-wide Vendor Management Program
  • Oversees the implementation, monitoring and testing the enterprise-wide Business Continuity Plan
  • Oversees the development of the Model Risk Management Program

What We’re Looking For:

  • At least ten years of leadership experience in the banking industry, including experience in Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance
  • Experience in fintech partnerships is preferred
  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • Certifications are a plus

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in developing and implementing a risk management framework
  • Ability to think strategically and implement creative solutions
  • Experience in initiating change and the ability to drive performance
  • Experience and ability to effectively communicate and interact with regulators, senior management and the Board of Directors
  • Ability to collaborate with, and have a deep knowledge of, various lines of business and processes
  • Strong analytical, communication (oral and written) and computer skills
  • Must be organized, detail oriented and capable of identifying the implications to the Bank of new and revised laws and regulations

Working Conditions/Demands:

  • Professional office setting.
  • Primarily sedentary position requiring long periods of time working at a computer.
