They would align the network priorities to the network architect, be responsible for mitigating exceptions to the network architecture and be accountable for leading network projects through their entire lifecycle.

  • Network Design: responsible for designing the company's network infrastructure to meet the specific needs of the organizations and their network architecture. This includes determining network topology, selecting appropriate hardware and software components, and planning for scalability and resilience.

  • Network Implementation: Once the network design is finalized, this role is responsible for implementing the network infrastructure according to the design specifications. This involves configuring routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking devices, as well as deploying network services such as VPNs, VLANs, and QoS.

  • Network Security: Ensuring the security of the company's network infrastructure is paramount. The engineer is responsible for implementing and maintaining security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS), VPNs, and access control lists (ACLs) to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security threats.

  • Network Monitoring and Optimization: monitors the performance and health of the network infrastructure, using tools such as network management systems and monitoring software. They identify and troubleshoot issues as they arise, optimize network performance, and implement changes to improve efficiency and reliability.

Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, electrical engineering, is required. Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) would be required.

Skills and Experience

  • Several years of experience in network engineering or related roles, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment, is typically required.
  • Experience with large-scale network deployments, including WAN/LAN environments, data centers, and remote sites, is beneficial.
  • Experience working with automotive manufacturing systems and technologies, such as industrial control systems (ICS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, may be advantageous.
