Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team at University of Minnesota Medical Center West Bank Campus in Minneapolis, MN.

About the ICU at UMMC West Bank

  • The West Bank ICU is a 10 bed unit will deliver care to a wide variety of critically ill adult patients. This population may include respiratory failure, sepsis, overdose/withdrawal and post op surgical patients.
  • The RN's in this unit will be responsible for close observation, hemodynamic monitoring, medication management, assistance with bedside procedures and respiratory support. Critical thinking and effective communication with all the members of the care team and families will be required.

Schedule:

This ICU nursing position will be working 0.75 FTE, 60 hours every two weeks on the day shift, 12 hour shifts. This position will work a weekend rotation of every third weekend.

Responsibilities/Job Description

As an ICU RN, you will be responsible for:

  • Assessing patient needs and identifying expected nursing outcomes;
  • Developing an individualized nursing plan of care;
  • Implementing interventions as needed during treatment based on the plan of care;
  • Evaluating care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes;
  • Using communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes;
  • Coordinating care with members of the health care team and delegating responsibilities to others as appropriate;
  • Demonstrating the ability to advance care by applying standards, guidelines, care pathways, and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes;
  • Promoting a culture of evidence based practice (EBP) by participating in a multitude of available opportunities; and
  • Performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 1 year of Med/Surg RN experience
  • MN RN License
  • BLS required

Preferred:

  • BSN or higher preferred
  • Certification in related specialty is highly desired
  • Certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nursing or in a related specialty is highly preferred
