Summary/Objective

The Lean Engineer plays a vital role in the development of a Factory Master Plan (FMP) roadmap aligned with the 1 to 5 year business plan, focusing on improving material flow and achieving short and long-term objectives. Utilizing lean tools, techniques, and methods, the Lean Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to support the goals outlined in the FMP.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, collect, and analyze data to establish statistical problem-solving goals.
  • Lead continuous improvement project teams, driving execution of Kaizen/Rapid Improvement events.
  • Convene and lead Project Teams to develop integrated plans for improving material flow and achieving short and long-term objectives.
  • Provide regular updates through formal and informal presentations to the team.
  • Ensure effective change management by keeping all employees informed, engaged, and committed to project deliverables.
  • Identify and share best manufacturing/lean practices, methods, and ideas.
  • Maintain and recommend next steps in the Factory Master Plan in collaboration with factory leadership to enhance current capabilities and align with future state plans.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership to track progress against the plan.
  • Interpret customer needs and requirements, translate concepts into best practices, identify process improvement opportunities, and quantify results and trends.
  • Adhere to and monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Communicate effectively and promptly notify supervisors of any discrepancies.
  • Accurately input all required data into the manufacturing database.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the manager.


Minimum Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience incorporating Industrial Engineering and Lean Methodologies in medium volume manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated track record of at least 5 years of successful work in medium or high volume manufacturing environments in durable goods industries, directly impacting manufacturing results (SDQC).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification through ASQ or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in rationalization and materials management/flow.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Cross-functional team-building skills with high levels of professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm.
  • Advanced Factory Master Planning and goal deployment experience, leading medium to large FMP projects.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of firearms, including quality, features, and safety aspects. (Preferred)
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or related field. (Preferred)
  • Training in TPS or Shin Lean. (Preferred)
  • Experience with New Product Introductions (NPI). (Preferred)
