Join us in Detroit and be a part of transforming public transportation in the city! We are looking for a dynamic Deputy Director of Transportation to lead our Department of Transportation. Under the guidance of the Director of Transportation, you will oversee the planning, scheduling, and operations of public transit in Detroit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set and change policy and operational direction in line with legal requirements and department goals.
- Ensure efficient acquisition, scheduling, dispatching, and maintenance of transportation vehicles and equipment.
- Establish policies, procedures, and standards for safe and effective municipal transportation.
- Create and implement strategic planning for internal divisions, providing direction to division managers.
- Manage public transportation operations and activities, including facility and fleet maintenance, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Recommend and implement improvements to transportation programs to meet ridership needs.
- Represent the department at City Council and other public events.
- Assist in the preparation and management of the department's budget.
- Interface with other City agencies to align programs and activities with City priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Five or more years' executive-level management experience in transportation, including transit operations and maintenance.
- Thorough understanding of laws and regulations related to the transportation industry.
- Ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and collective bargaining units.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
